Dr. Weir develops statistical methodology for genetic data with an emphasis on allelic dependencies, population structure, disease associations and relationships, and the use of genetic data for human identification. His most recent publications are “Rank-invariant estimation of inbreeding coefficients”, Heredity  128:1-10, 2022 and “Elephant genotypes reveal the size and connectivity of transnational ivory traffickers”,. Nature Human Behaviour, publishwed online February 14, 2022.
